St. Georges, Grenada – Over 320,000 cruise passengers visited the spice isle for the2008 – 2009 Cruise year.
This according to a survey done by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association based on figures received by the Grenada Board of Tourism.
According to the survey an estimated 272,683 passengers disembarked and visited Grenada.
The disclosure came from Tourism Minister Hon Glynis Roberts as she addressed a recent sitting of the senate.
Roberts says that “utilizing additional data provided by the visiting cruise lines we have estimated that 132,222 crew were aboard the cruise ship and that 35 per cent disembarked and visited.”
The passenger and crew visits along with additional expenditure by the cruise lines generated a total of 21.7 million dollars in the cruise tourism expenditures in Grenada during 2008-2009.
According to Roberts the analysis shows that cruise passengers were very satisfied with the overall visit to Grenada with a mean score of 7.1 of a scale of 10.
The visits she admitted did not score high in terms of meeting expectations decreasing by 6.7.
Passengers she indicated felt very informed about tours and onshore activities in Grenada with a mean score of 7.4.
Guided tours received the highest score of all visit attribute with a mean score of 7.9.
